An unbeaten 61 by veteran D Vinay Kumar enabled hosts Hyderabad take 138-run first innings lead over Mumbai on the second day of the four-day Elite Group B Ranji Trophy match at the Uppal Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday.
At close of play Hyderabad were 253 for 5.
Resuming at 66 for one, in reply to Mumbai first innings score of 115, overnight batsman D B Ravi Teja scored a patient 45 before debutant Shemal Waingankar claimed his wicket with Amol Mazumdar taking a good catch. It was Waingankar's maiden first class wicket.
Teja's 45 was the result of his 149-minute stay at the wicket. He scored five fours in the space of 115 balls while Shashank Nag and skipper Anirudh Singh took the baton and continued the scoring spree.
Experienced Ramesh Powar put brakes on the Hyderabad duo. He dismissed both batsmen with his deceptive deliveries. Shashank Nag, who replaced injured A T Rayudu, nicked one into the hands of Mazumdar after he compiled a very cautious 36, inclusive of three hits to the fence, off 198 balls, during a 258-minute stay at the wicket.
Anirudh Singh hit a breezy 21 and was caught by Sharma to give Powar his second wicket.
Vinay Kumar was joined by Ibrahim Khaleel and duo were involved in an unfinished partnership of 79 runs for the sixth wicket at stumps.
Vinay, with seven fours and one six, was unbeaten on 64 while keeper Khaleel was on 41, inclusive of one hit to the fence.
Besides Powar, strike bowler S P Hazare claimed two for 52 and Waingankar took one.
The hosts are ahead by 115 runs and have five wickets in hand with two days to go.
