Sachin Tendulkar will return to competitive cricket in the upcoming Challenger Series.

The master batsman, who underwent surgery for tennis elbow in May, has been cleared to play in the October 10 to 13 tournament, in Mohali, by the Indian team's physiotherapist, John Gloster.

"Tendulkar is playing in the Challenger Series. I also spoke to John Gloster, who said he can play," said national senior selection committee chairman Kiran More from Vadodara on Friday.

The teams in the tournament -- India Seniors, India A and India B -- will be named in Delhi n Saturday.

Earlier this month, Tendulkar opted out of the ICC Super Series in Australia under instructions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India's sports injury specialist, Dr Anant Joshi.

He was named in the Rest of the World one-day (best-of-three series) and Test (six-day one-off) squads.

The elbow injury forced Tendulkar skip India's tours to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

He sustained an injury that was diagnosed as tennis elbow during the Videocon Cup tri-series in Amsterdam in August last year and made a comeback to the Indian team in the third Test against Australia in Nagpur in October after physiotherapy.
