Paul Collingwood became the first man in One-Day Internationals to score a century and take six wickets as England beat Bangladesh by 168 runs in Tuesday's eventful triangular series match.
The batting all-rounder made 112 not out to Andrew Strauss's 152 as the home side just missed out on a world record total, making 391 for four after winning the toss.
Collingwood, bowling slow-medium, then took six for 31. Bangladesh, who had upset Australia at the weekend, were dismissed for 223 in 45.2. overs.
Debutant Chris Tremlett took four wickets for 32. Mohammad Ashraful, just 20 years old and who made a century against the world champions, walloped a 52-ball 94 in a losing cause.
The day-night victory gave England three wins in a row.
The world record innings total for an international one-dayer is held by Sri Lanka, 398 for five against Kenya at Kandy in the 1996 World Cup.
The game offered rich entertainment to the Trent Bridge crowd, including some scintillating batting and one extraordinary hat-trick that never was from Tremlett.
Marcus Trescothick set the tone with a blazing 85 off 65 balls out of a 141-run opening stand with Strauss.
Planting his front foot down leg stump and swinging hard and straight, he provided the brightest fireworks as he smashed 14 fours and two sixes. He also hit 23 -- including four fours and one six -- off one over from Tapash Baisya.
Following a couple of hiccups, including an eight-ball duck for captain Michael Vaughan, Strauss, cutting and pulling powerfully, and Collingwood, pulling and sweeping, put on 210 at a cracking rate.
HUGE LET-OFF
The English total looked impossible but Ashraful certainly entertained after a huge let-off first ball.
Tremlett, 6ft 7ins and bowling fast-medium, bowled Shahriar Nafees off an inside edge for 10 and had Tushar Imran caught behind next ball to make it 30 for two.
Ashraful played the hat-trick ball into the ground and it bounced back on top of the bails without dislodging them. He responded by driving strike bowler Steve Harmison for two sixes next over.
Mixing outrageous luck with equally outrageous strokes, he hooked Andrew Flintoff for six to get to his 50 off 21 balls, the fastest by a Bangladeshi batsman in an international one-dayer. Harmison's first three overs cost 37.
Ashraful, after a couple of flicks off his stumps in Strauss style, was finally bowled by Collingwood after hitting 11 fours and three sixes and walked off to a standing ovation. He and Javed Omar (59) put on 124 for the third wicket.
After that, the game gradually petered out but not before Collingwood took his sixth wicket with the final ball of his 10-over spell.
Tremlett returned with two more wickets for final figures of four for 32. His main rival for a starting place in the team, Jon Lewis, conceded 23 off five overs without taking a wicket.
Only one man has ever scored a century and taken five wickets in a one-dayer -- Viv Richards for West Indies against New Zealand in Dunedin in 1987.
Collingwood also recorded the best bowling figures by an English player in a one-dayer.
