Shane Warne's off-field conduct has reportedly cost him his lucrative commentating job with Australian broadcaster Channel 9.

Kerry Packer terminated 300,000 Australian dollars worth contract with the world's highest wicket-taker after learning of his involvement with a 25-year old British student, according to reports in 'News Limited' newspapers in Sydney.

Warne, who leads the all-time bowlers' list with 583 Test wickets, has been involved in several controversies before, including the one in which he was reported to have sent a series of lewd text messages to a British nurse two years ago.

Channel 9, who had stood by the player voted by Wisden as one of the Five Cricketers of the Century, seems to have finally lost patience and told him good bye, reports said.

Packer personally phoned Warne to tell him of the decision to axe the leg-spin bowler from his television network after consulting with senior executives, according to the newspapers.

The report said Nine was understood to have a clause inserted in Warne's last contract allowing for termination if his off-field conduct was unsatisfactory.

Warne recently ended his marriage to Simone but at the time he was signing the divorce papers he was reportedly having an affair and sending text messages to another British woman during his County stint with Hampshire.
