Axing Ganguly grossly unfair: Left

A day after senior Communist Party of India leader Gurudas Gupta dashed off a letter to BCCI president and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar demanding the inclusion of Sourav Ganguly in the Indian team for the Ahmedabad Test, another senior CPI leader D Raja has also thrown his weight behind the former Indian captain.

Talking to rediff.com, Raja said that he himself has never played sports of any kind, but said that what had happened with Ganguly was 'grossly unfair.'

"Please do not think that we are trying to make the issue political. Our contention is simple: Sourav had shown good performance in the Delhi Test match and yet he was dropped from the Indian team. The selection committee was not fair to him," Raja said.

Although Raja himself is not a cricket buff, he recounted several good innings played by Ganguly and rattled off details and statistics.

"He is a player of great standing whose contribution to Indian cricket cannot be ignored. He has been the most successful captain of in Indian cricket and yet he is humiliated in such a manner," he said.

Raja said that he would have taken the same stand if the selectors had humiliated Sachin Tendulkar like they have humiliated Ganguly.
