England needed two to win with the shadows lengthening and Giles ended the drama with a flick through mid-wicket. The final pair had put on 13 runs.
The three-wicket victory left the hosts 2-1 up in the series with one game left.
"Matthew Hoggard is my hero today, and Giles," said Flintoff, who made a century in the first innings. "We are very proud of those too."
