Freddie's the flint

Mike Atherton once described him as, "So dopey, he'll probably lose seven mobile phones a year and if you've haven't got somebody on the end of the phone to get him a new one, he's lost."

But Flintoff confirmed his class in international cricket by winning the ICC One-Day International player of the year at the inaugural awards in 2004.

He could also lay claims to being one of best all-rounders in Test cricket, having reached the 2000 run-100 wicket double in 43 Tests, which is quicker than acknowledged stars Garfield Sobers (48), Kapil Dev (49) and Imran Khan (50). Botham did it in 42.
