Freddie's the flint

The 27-year-old, who Ricky Ponting reckoned -- before the Ashes series began -- is the only English cricketer who could find a place in the Australian side, is a blast off the field too.

He may be wearing a mask of aggression on the cricket field in the battle against the Aussies, but people around him confirm he is a magnanimous lad.

John Stanworth, the captain of Lancashire's second XI, named him 'Freddie' Flintoff when he was a teenager.

'For the lack of any innovative answer I have to say it was because Flintoff sounded a lot like Flintstone,' said Stanworth.
