The Annual General Meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India was adjourned till October 26 to take up two pending agendas with regard to appointment of Jagmohan Dalmiya as the Patron-in-Chief.

Announcing the decision on Thursday, President-elect Ranbir Singh Mahendra said the AGM had to be adjourned as it could not complete its business because of a stay order passed by a Chennai court.

He said the meeting would be reconvened on October 26 to complete the business.

Mahendra said the two points on the agenda were related to the confirmation of the minutes of the Board's Special General Meeting  (SGM) on September 12 and representation of the Board at the International Cricket Council, Asian Cricket Council and other international bodies.

The SGM in Chennai had earlier decided to appoint outgoing BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya as the Patron-in-Chief for three years with authority to represent the Board at all the international fora. The appointment had to be confirmed by the AGM.

The AGM, however, could not take up the agenda as a Chennai court stayed its confirmation till October 11 on a petition filed by Bharathi Cricket Club of Chennai.

The Board has already filed a revision petition before the Madras High Court against the order. The matter will come up for hearing tomorrow.

Mahendra, however, said the pending agenda would be taken up by the AGM subject to the vacation of the court's stay.

This unprecedented situation, however, has created a strange scenario for the BCCI since as per its provisions the new set of office bearers cannot take office until the AGM is completed on October 26.

Mahendra also conceded that as per rules the existing set of officer-bearers will continue in their positions till the termination of the AGM but in view of the injunction the AGM has not been terminated, only adjourned.

He, however, said it was an internal administrative matter and "for all practical purposes I am the President of the Board."

When he was asked what was the current status of outgoing president Dalmiya, he said he would not comment as the matter was sub-judice.
