Hosts Hyderabad were sitting pretty after gaining a massive 148-run first innings lead against Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group `B' match in Hyderabad on Friday.

Replying to hosts' first innings score of 231, Maharashtra buckled under pressure and folded up at 83 avoiding the follow-on by just two runs.

The hosts ended the second day at 168 for 9 in their second innings, extending the lead to 316 runs with one more wicket in hand. Skipper SLV Raju (4) and F Shahnawaz (0) were at crease.

Debutant F Shahnawaz, speedster N P Singh and Mohd. Ghouse wrecked the Maharashtra batting with only S Satbhai providing some resistance, scoring an enterprising 31.

He added 38 runs for the last wicket with A Sanklecha (8) and was solely responsible for bringing the hosts to the batting crease again.

Shahnawaz teased the batsmen with his tempting line and the visitors fell prey.

Ghouse accounted for N Godbole (0) and R Khirid (0) while opening bowler N P Singh ripped through the tail after drawing the first blood by dismissing D Jadhav for 18.

In the second innings, hosts had a shaky start, losing three quick wickets with Sancklecha making best use of the windy conditions.

Ambatti Rayudu stemmed the rot with a refined 23 while Anirudh Singh (37), Ibrahim Kaleel (41) and Md Ghouse (32) picked valuable runs before Sancklecha returned with figures of 5 for 46.
