India skipper Sourav Ganguly sustained an injury in his lower back while fielding during the Pakistan innings in the deciding One-Day International of the five-match series in Lahore on Wednesday and was carried off the field on a stretcher.

Team physio Andrew Leipus is treating him.

Ganguly sustained the injury when he dived to stop an off-drive by Pakistani captain Inzamam-ul Haq off the bowling of Laxmipathy Balaji. He lay on the ground writhing in pain for a few minutes before being carried off.

Team manager Ratnakar Shetty said it is too early to say whether he is ruled out of the first Test, beginning in Multan on March 28.

Pakistan are chasing 294 runs to win the match.

The Indian total was built around a fine knocks by V V S Laxman (107) and Sourav Ganguly (45), after openers Virender Sehwag (20) and Sachin Tendulkar (37) were out by the 15th over.
