Leading from the front, skipper Sairaj Bahutule claimed four wickets for 42 runs to bowl out Hyderabad for a paltry 166 in their first innings on the first day of the Ranji Trophy semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.

Leg spinner Bahutule was well supported by Munaf Patel (3-40) and Nilesh Kulkarni (2-45).

In reply, Mumbai were comfortably placed at 84 for no loss when stumps were drawn for the day.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, Hyderabad batsmen could not withstand the accurate line and length of the hosts' bowlers and lost wickets at regular intervals before being bundled out for 166, just 22 minutes before tea.

The only resistance came from young Ambati Rayudu who hit a masterly 95 before gifting his wicket. Rayudu was the last man to be dismissed.

The visitors lost their first wicket in the seventh over of the day when opener Arvind Shetty was bowled through the gates by a beautiful Munaf Patel delivery. Shetty made 15 runs which included three boundaries.

Experienced D Vinay Kumar, who joined the other opener Daniel Manohar at the crease, failed to open his account and gave a regulation catch to Vinayak Mane in the first slip off Patel.

Rayudu tried to steady the innings in the company of Manohar but the latter misjudged a Patel inswinger only to see his stumps uprooted.

Rayudu, however, remained glued to one end. But he started running short of partners with Hyderabad losing wickets at regular intervals. Though Rayudu and Ibrahim Khaleel added 66 runs for the fifth wicket, it failed to give their team a fighting total.

Rayudu, who fell five runs short of his century, hit 15 boundaries and a towering six and faced 166 balls during his stay in the crease for 210 minutes.

He was the last man to be dismissed, when in an attempt to complete his century, he gave a simple catch to Manoj Joglekar at extra cover off left-arm spinner Nilesh Kulkarni.

In reply, Mumbai openers Vinayak Mane and Wasim Jaffer played confidently and remained not out on 42 and 33 runs respectively when play was called off for the day.
