This was India's second series against Pakistan, the first one being in 1952-53 when they hosted their neighbours in India.

This was the first ocassion when they were visiting Pakistan, after winning the first series. And thus began the trend of captains losing their jobs after touring Pakistan. Vinoo Mankad was replaced by Ghulam Ahmed after the tour.
