Indian eves crash to defeat

Vice-captain Karen Rolton hit an unbeaten 62 as the Australian women's team beat Indian eves by three wickets in the second One-Day International to go 2-0 up in the seven-match series at Mysore on Monday.

Chasing a victory target of 172, the tourists who won the first match by 14 runs on Saturday, scampered home for the loss of seven wickets with four balls to spare.

Rolton, who top-scored for the visitors with 82 in the first match, hit four boundaries in her 93-ball knock, and guided the team to their second victory.

Other notable scorers for the tourists were captain Belinda Clark (31) and Lisa Sthalekar (30).

Earlier, sent into bat, the hosts suffered an early setback with opener Jaya Sharma back in the pavilion without scoring. But Anju Jain (51) and Anjum Chopra (43) shared a 101-run partnership for the second wicket.

Jain hit five fours in her 92-ball knock, while Chopra, who faced 100 deliveries, hit four boundaries as India ended on 171 for seven in their 50 overs.

For India, Neetu David took two wickets for 39 runs, while Jhulan Goswami and Deepa Marathe claimed one wicket each.

The teams now head for Mumbai for the third match on December 16.
