The Board of Control for Cricket in India is set to extend John Wright's contract as national coach by a year.
Wright and BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya have already discussed the new contract and a decision on the same is expected to be ratified at the board's working committee meeting in Kolkata on August 16.
According to BCCI sources, the contract will be extended till September 30, 2005.
Though the BCCI was willing to consider a longer deal, Wright, who has turned out to be India's most successful coach, apparently wanted to "take it on a year-by-year basis".
This is because Wright doesn't want to be under obligation for a long period. A year's contract could allow him to review his decision to continue as coach of the team. He had said earlier that he would like to spend time with his family.
Dalmiya spoke with Wright when the Indian team was announced for the Videocon Cup and Champions Trophy on July 28.
The decision is unlikely to meet with any opposition at the working committee meeting.
