The tiny wicketkeeper Patel put up a brave fight on the fourth morning and helped his team avoid the ignominy of an innings defeat.
He remained unbeaten on 62 and, with the help of the tailenders, guided India to 241 all out after they had been left reeling at 160 for 6, when Sehwag was dismissed.
