India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel was fined 60 per cent of his match fee by ICC match referee Ranjan Madugalle of Sri Lanka for excessive appealing during the second day's play in the second Test against Pakistan in Lahore on Tuesday.
Madugalle had summoned the young Indian stumper for a hearing after the two umpires, Steve Bucknor of the West Indies and Simon Taufel of Australia, had reported Patel at the end of the second day's play which witnessed quite a few close decisions going in the batsmen's favour.
India captain Rahul Dravid and team manager Ratnakar Shetty were also present during the hearing.
The umpires were particularly miffed with Patel's vociferous appeal for a caught behind decision against Yousuf Youhana off Anil Kumble's bowling. When Taufel turned down the appeal, Patel made his disgust clear.

Incidentally, Youhana had nicked the ball and was clearly out, though the umpire failed to see it.
