Australia captain Ricky Ponting was named the Electrolux Wisden International Cricketer of the Year.

He beat strong competition from England captain Michael Vaughan, rising West Indies star Ramnaresh Sarwan, and New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming.

"We are never happy with what we achieve," Ponting said. "We always want to do better and that is why the team is a better unit."
