India skipper Sourav Ganguly is virtually ruled out of the first one-dayer of the upcoming tri-series on October 23 and also doubtful for the second on October 26.

"There is marginal improvement in the wound but it is yet to be filled up and he needs some more dressing. For this the hospitalisation period has to be extended at least till Wednesday," doctors M Nandy and Sukumar Mukherjee, who are attending on Ganguly, told reporters at a press conference in Kolkata on Sunday.

The doctors said Ganguly is free from fever and had good sleep last night. "He is comfortable, though the pain is still there."

The Indian skipper had to undergo surgery for an abscess, for the second time in five days, in his left upper thigh on Saturday at a private nursing home in Kolkata.

"We have to continue dressing under analgesia for the next three days. The infection is still persisting. Medicines have to be continued," Mukherjee said.

Asked when Ganguly could return to cricketing action, the doctor said it is difficult to predict. "But in such cases, at least 10 days' bed rest is necessary.

"But you can logically conclude that he is not playing the first match. He is also doubtful for the second, though we are trying hard to make him fit before that," the doctors added.
