Australia vs New Zealand
Fifth ODI
Australia were staring defeat after Micheal Clarke was dismissed for 70. The powerfully-built Andrew Symonds, who showed in earlier matches he can be a very dangerous hitter, had scored just one run when he drove a Chris Cairns delivery straight to Lou Vincent, one of the best fielders in the Kiwi team.
But Vincent dropped the straight-forward catch. Australia were 176-5 off 35.5 overs at that stage. Symonds made the best of his opportunity as he went on to score 37 off 39 balls and guide Australia to a narrow victory in the fifth match of the tri-series.
