In an effort to improve the standard of spin bowling in the country, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has set up a panel comprising stalwarts of the art, and the body will have its first brainstorming session in Kolkata on May 30.

BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya said despite being traditionally strong in the spin department, the performance of Indian slow bowlers of late, with the exception of off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and leggie Anil Kumble, has not been upto the mark.

"Spin bowling appears to be a decaying art today. In the past, however, the strength in this department helped India win many matches. But the perfromance of the spinners with the exception of Kumble and Harbhajan leaves much to be desired," Dalmiya said.

He said the BCCI wants to dig deep into the problem, and with the help of spin stalwarts will draw up a detailed course of action.

The panel comprises R G (Bapu) Nadkarni, Bishen Singh Bedi, E A Prasanna, B S Chandrasekhar, S Venkatraghavan, V V Kumar, Rajinder Goel, Padmakar Shivalkar, Shivlal Yadav, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan and Anil Kumble.

"After the brain stroming session, a spinners' wing would be set up under the National Cricket Academy. The talented spinners in the country from all age groups would be identified and put under special training of the experts in the panel," Dalmiya added.
