Dravid's unbeaten 131 was his 13th three figure innings of his career. It was his 64th match and 109th innings of his career. It was his third hundred (all in a row) against England in 9 matches, after his 115 (at Nottingham) and 148 (at Leeds).
By scoring three hundreds in a row he becomes the fifth Indian batsman after Vijay Hazare (122, 164*, 155 from 1949 to 1951), Polly Umrigar (117, 112, 147* in 1961), Sunil Gavaskar - twice - (117*, 124, 220 in 1971) and (111, 137, 205 in 1978) and Vinod Kambli (224, 227, 125 in 1993) to register three hundreds in a row.
During his above knock, Dravid went past the aggregate of 500 runs in this series. It was the first time in his Test career he has done so. He had made 432 runs (avg. 432.00) in the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe in India in 2000, which was his previous best. He now has 516 runs (avg 103.20) in this series.
Dravid also became the sixth Indian batsman to aggregate 500-plus runs in an away series, with Gavaskar and Mohinder Amarnath doing it twice. The others being Polly Umrigar, Dilip Sardesai and Sanjay Manjrekar.
Dravid, when he reached 83, became the fifth Indian batsman to aggregate 3000 runs in away Test matches. He joins Gavaskar (5055 runs in 60 matches), Sachin Tendulkar (4517 in 58), Dilip Vengsarkar (3143 in 62) and Mohinder Amarnath (3008 in 37). Dravid now has 3048 runs in 36 away matches.
Dravid, has now overtaken Tendulkar as the highest run-getter for this calendar year of 2002. Dravid at the end of the third day now has 992 runs, while going past Tendulkar's 986 runs and Vaughan's 984 runs.
Sachin Tendulkar's 54 has taken his tally of runs to 8405 runs after 100 matches and 160 innings. He is just short of the record aggregate of 8479 runs by Gavaskar, the maximum runs made by a batsman after 100 Tests. Tendulkar now need to score 75 runs in the second innings to better Gavaskar's record run aggregate after 100 Test matches.
Sourav Ganguly (51, when on 29) became the ninth Indian and the 75th batsman in Test cricket history to aggregate 4000 runs. He was appearing in his 62nd Test and 104th innings of his career.
The catch of Ganguly was Alec Stewart's 200th of his career as a keeper in 71 matches. He becomes the second Englishman and the sixth Test wicket-keeper to reach this landmark. The others being Australians Ian Healy (366 catches in 119 matches) & Rod Marsh (343 in 96), West Indian Jeff Dujon (265 in 79), Englishman Alan Knott (250 in 95) and Pakistan Wasim Bari (201 in 81).
The 23 no-balls was the maximum conceded by England against India in the 91 Test matches between the two sides. The previous highest was the 21 no-balls conceded by English bowlers at Delhi in December 1981.
