About the city
Hyderabad is the capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh in south-central India. It is located on the Deccan Plateau and Musi River.

The city was founded by the Qutb Shahi sultans of Golconda, under whom the kingdom of Golconda attained a position of importance second only to that of the Mughal Empire in the north.

The old fortress town of Golconda had proved inadequate as the kingdom's capital, and so about 1591 Muhammad Quli Qutb Shahi, the fifth of the Qutb Shahis, built a new city called Hyderabad on the east bank of the Musi River, a few miles from old Golconda.

It became the capital of the Nizams of Hyderabad from 1724. Today Hyderabad is one the major IT cities in the country.

About the ground
The Fateh Maiden Ground has been in existance since the 1920s and the first-class cricket has been played here since 1934.

Since then over 130 first-class matches have been played here. The ground was subsequently named as Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium when it was constructed in the year 1960. The venue hosted its first international when the home team played a Test match against New Zealand in 1955.

The first one-dayer to be played here was the match between India and Pakistan on 11-9-1983. This ground was among the first in the country to have acquired flood-lights.

In all the venue has hosted three Test matches and 12 LOI matches, including two World Cup matches in 1987 and 1996.

India has played six matches here - they have won four, lost one and one was a no-result match. Zimbabwe have played three (two against West Indies and one against New Zealand) matches at this venue and have lost all of them.
