Statistical highlights of 2nd Test at Delhi (2nd day)

Mohandas Menon

** Dion Ebrahim (94), who missed his maiden Test hundred by six runs, has the distinction of registering his highest first-class score of his career. His previous highest was the 90 he made for Mashonaland-A in a domestic match last season.

** Andy Flower (92) and Ebrahim (94) provided the second instance for Zimbabwe when two of their batsmen recorded scores in the nineties in the same innings. They now emulate Craig Wishart (93) and Andy Blignaut (92) who in the second innings against the West Indies at Harare last July missed their respective three-figure landmarks.

** Incidentally, this also provided the fifth such occasion by a Test team against India. Raman Subba Row (94)/Mike Smith (98) for England at the Oval, August 1959; Alvin Kallicharran (98)/Deryck Murray (91) at Wankhede Stadium, January 1975; Jonty Rhodes (91)/Brian McMcMillan (98)for South Africa at Johannesburg, November 1992 and Jacques Kallis (95)/Lance Klusener (97) at Bangalore, March 2000 are the batsmen who missed their hundreds in the same innings.

** The wicket of Taibu was Kumble's 33rd at this ground. He now has the maximum wickets at this venue bettering Kapil Dev's tally of 32 wickets. Kumble later extended his tally to 34 wickets.

** Both Srinath and Kumble have taken the same number of wickets against Zimbabwe - 30 - the maximum by any Indian bowler.

** Sourav Ganguly for the first time in 18 matches, went in at the number three position while captaining the side. Interestingly the last occasion he appeared in this position was in his last Test as a player, which was against South Africa at Bangalore in March 2000. He had scores of 1 and 13 in the match. For the record, his first eight innings in Tests since debut in 1996 came at this position, which included two hundreds in his very first two innings.

**Ganguly's unbeaten 78 was his highest since his 98 (also unbeaten) against Sri Lanka at Kandy in August 2001. Since then he had gone through 11 innings without a fifty.

** This was Ganguly's highest score against Zimbabwe bettering his unbeaten 65 at this same venue in November 2000.
