He is a classical and consistent batsman. He missed a century on Test debut at Lord's in 1996 by five runs, being India's only batsman to be dismissed in the nervous 90s on Test debut. In 1997-98, Dravid produced a run of six half centuries in consecutive Test innings across two home series against Sri Lanka and Australia. GR Viswanath is the only other Indian to have done that. In 2000, Dravid added 331 runs for the second wicket with Sachin Tendulkar in a one-day international against New Zealand. It is a world record stand for any wicket, erasing the 324-run stand between Dravid and Sourav Ganguly in Taunton in 1999. Dravid became only the third Indian batsman after Vijay Hazare and Sunil Gavaskar to score a century in each innings of a Test when he performed the feat against New Zealand in Hamilton in 1998-99. He has also kept wickets in one-day internationals, offering India additional options. Named for the Arjuna Award in 199 and as one of Wisden's five Cricketers of the year in 2000. Played one season for Kent, scoring 1221 first class runs at 55.5.
