Samaraweera replaces Muralitharan in Sri Lanka squad
Sri Lanka named all-rounder Thilan Samaraweera to replace Muttiah Muralitharan in the triangular one-day series against England and India on Tuesday.
The Sri Lankan cricket board said Samaraweera had left for England and that Muralitharan, who has been suffering from a shoulder injury, would fly home to get fit for the Test series against Bangladesh starting next month.
The off-spinner played in the last two Tests of the three-match series won 2-0 by England but the team management decided he was not fit enough to field in the one-day tournament.
Samaraweera was included in the Test squad for the England tour -- although he did not feature in the series -- but was initially left out for the one-dayers.
The triangular one-day series begins on Thursday with a day-night match between the hosts and Sri Lanka at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The final is at Lord's on July 13.
Revised Sri Lankan one-day squad:
Sanath Jayasuriya (captain), Marvan Atapattu, Thilan Samaraweera, Russel Arnold, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Nuwan Zoysa, Upul Chandana, Dilhara Fernando, Buddhika Fernando, Chaminda Vaas, Avishka Gunawardene, Pramodya Wickramasinghe, Chamara Silva, Naveed Nawaz.
