Sourav Ganguly was appearing in his 200th LOI match. He becomes the sixth Indian and the 27th player in LOI history to do so.
Harbhajan Singh was appearing in his 50th LOI match. He becomes the 29th Indian and the 240th player in LOI history to do so.
Playing in his 294th match, Sachin Tendulkar (113) recorded his 33rd LOI hundred. It was his seventh against Sri Lanka - the maximum he has scored against any team. He has six hundreds against Australia.
He now has an aggregate of 1941 runs in 48 matches against the Lankans, which makes him the third highest run-getter against Sri Lanka after Pakistanis Saeed Anwar (2072 runs in 49 matches) and Inzamam ul Haq (2071 in 54). During his above knock, Tendulkar went past Azharuddin's 1834 (in 53 matches) against Sri Lanka.
Tendulkar's seven hundreds against Sri Lanka equals the tally of Saeed Anwar.
The hundred was Tendulkar's third in England after the 140 not out against Kenya at this same venue in 1999 and his unbeaten 105 against the home side at Chester-le-Street last week.
Tendulkar has now been dismissed by Chamida Vaas on seven occasions - the maximum by any bowler in LOIs. West Indian Courtney Walsh, Pakistani Azhar Mahmood and Zimbabwean Heath Streak have dismissed Tendulkar six times.
Among Indian batsmen Vaas has now dismissed Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar - most times - seven!
The partnership of 74 runs between Tendulkar and Mohammad Kaif was the best for the sixth wicket at this ground obliterating the previous best of 42 (unbeaten) between Australians Steve Waugh and Ian Harvey against England last season.
The above partnership was also India's best for the sixth wicket against Sri Lanka bettering the previous best of 68 runs between Yashpal Sharma and Kapil Dev at Amirtsar on 12-9-1982.
Marvan Atapattu (53) when on 48, became the fifth Sri Lankan and the 37th batsman in LOIs to aggregate 5000 runs. He was appearing in his 154th match and 152nd innings.
Harbhajan Singh's 4-46 was the best figures by an Indian spinner in England. The previous best was the 3-26 by left-arm spinner Ravi Shastri against the West Indies at Manchester on 9-6-1983.
The man of the match award was Tendulkar's 45th in 294 matches - by far the maximum by any player in LOIs. It was his fifth against Sri Lanka in 48 matches.
