  • Pramodaya Wickremasinghe was making a comeback to the side after last playing against South Africa at Bloemfontein on 14-1-2001. During this period he missed 39 matches for Sri Lanka.
  • The 84 run partnership between Marvan Atapattu and Mahela Jayawardene was Sri Lanka's best for the third wicket in England bettering the previous best of 82 between Arura Tennekoon and Michael Tissera against Australia at the Oval on 11-6-1975.

    It was also Sri Lanka's best for this wicket against India in England surpassing the previous best partnership of 51 runs between Atapattu and Aravinda deSilva at Taunton on 26-5-1999.

  • The wicket of Mongia was Chaminda Vaas' 50th against India. He was playing his 37th match. He now joins three other bowlers - all Pakistanis - who have fifty or more wickets against India - Wasim Akram (60 wickets in 47 matches), Saqlain Mushtaq (57 in 36) and Aaqib Javed (54 39). Vaas now has the maximum wickets against anmy country. He has 49 wickets in 45 matches against Pakistan.
  • Playing in his 175th match, Rahul Dravid won his 7th man of the match award of his career. The last time he won such an award was against Ziimbabwe at Bulawayo on 27-6-2001. Interestingly, Dravid has never won sun an award at home.
