Statistical highlights of Nagpur Test (3rd day)

** Tendulkar (137 not out, on 51) became the first batsman to aggregate 500 runs at this venue. Playing in his fourth match and fifth innings he now has 586 runs (avg. 195.33).

** Tendulkar (when on 81) became the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar (10122 runs) to reach the landmark of 7500 runs in Test cricket. He becomes the 16th batsman in history to do so. By reaching this milestone in his 90th Test and 144th innings, he becomes the quickest among the 16 batsmen to do so in least number of innings. West Indian Gary Sobers needed 147 innings to reach his landmark in 1971-72. However Sobers did so in least matches - 84.

** The hundred was Tendulkar's 28th of his career. He now has equal number of hundreds - 14 each - both at home and away.

** He also went past the tally of 27 hundreds by Australians Allan Border and Steve Waugh. Now only Gavaskar (34) and Bradman (29) have more hundreds than Tendulkar.

** Tendulkar has now scored three hundreds at this venue - the maximum scored at this ground by any batsman (SS Das has two). Incidentally, Tendulkar has equalled his personal tally of three hundreds at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground at Colombo. He has only scored more - four - at the Chepauk, Chennai.

** Tendulkar, when on 134 became the highest run-getter against Zimbabwe. Playing in his 8th match and 12th innings he now has 801 runs. He went past the previous best tally of fellow teammate Rahul Dravid who had 797 runs in six matches.

** For the first time in his career spanning 90 matches and 144 innings in over 12 years, Tendulkar has taken his batting average to over 58 runs per innings. By the close of play on the third day he has extended his current batting average to 59.03 runs. This is by far the best he has achieved in his entire career. The previous best batting average achieved by Tendulkar was the 57.98 runs after his first innings hundred (155) against South Africa at Bloemfontein in November 2001.

** Raymond Price's figures of 4-130 were the best by a Zimbabwean bowler in India. The previous best was the 3-186 by John Traicos at Delhi in March 1993.

** When Travis Friend was not allowed to bowl by umpire S Venkataraghavan, it provided the second instance in recent times when a bowler was not allowed to do so by the umpires who implemented Law 42.7 and 42.8 (unfair play). West Indian paceman Colin Stuart in the Kandy Test in November last year was withdrawn from the bowling crease for the remainder of the innings after bowling 2 high full-pitched deliveries (both called no-ball) in his first 3 balls. He was not allowed to continue by English umpire John Hampshire.
