Query: If a batsman is run out on a no-ball / wide ball, is the ball counted? Why?

Mohandas Menon:
The ball is not counted for that particular over i.e. the bowler has to bowl an extra ball. However in case of the number of balls faced by the batsman the "no-ball" faced by the batsman is added, while for "wides" the number of balls faced by the batsman it does not count. The reason is that the batsman can score off a no-ball, while he cannot do so from a wide ball.

Query: IS THERE ANY INSTANCE OF A BATSMAN HITTING 12 RUNS OF THE LAST BALL TO WIN THE MATCH FOR HIS SIDE, IF A BOWLER BOWLS NO BALL ON THE LAST BALL? THANKS, RAJESH

Mohandas Menon:
No such instances have never been recorded before. Moreover, no bowler is foolish to bowl a no-ball when the opponent has to score an impossible 12 runs off just one ball!

Name:Pandian S M
Query: i wanted to know abt mr kumarans fate in indian cricket ....why he is being ignored

Mohandas Menon:
Thiru Kumaran last played for India in the Asia Cup at Dhaka in June 2000. In his last match against Pakistan he conceded 86 runs in 10 overs (the maximum runs conceded by an Indian bowler in an ODI match). This perhaps is the reason why he has been ignored by the selectors. Moreover with the advent of Zaheer Khan, Kumaran's chances as an opening bowler for the country has became remote. However he could make a comeback if he performs well in the next domestic season.

Name:Pillai, GK
Query: Who is the youngest ever cricketer and at what level did he play as per the records available?

Mohandas Menon:
The record in a first-class match for the youngest ever player goes to an Indian (later Pakistani) Alimuddin who was 12 years 73 days when he made his first-class debut for Rajputana in the Ranji Trophy tournament against Baroda at Rajkot in 1942-43. Incidentally Alimuddin went on to play for Pakistan from 1954 to 1962 in 25 Test matches while scoring 1091 runs (avg 25.37) with two hundreds.

Just for the record, a young Pakistani girl Sajjida Shah made her Test debut in a women's Test match against Ireland at Dublin in July 2000 at the age of 12 years 35 days. She can claim to be the youngest ever for cricketer amongst - both male and female.

Name:harshal kulkarni
Query: what was sachin tendulkar's score in his debutant one day international & Test match.

Mohandas Menon:
In his Test match debut against Pakistan at Karachi in November 1989, he scored 15 in the only innings, while in his ODI debut also against Pakistan at Gujranwala on December 18, 1989, he made a duck!

Name:Padmanaban
Query: Dear Mr. Menon, Your answer to the question on the batsman hitting the stumps while running raises a controversial point. If a batsman does so and runs for the next run, the fielding side has to dislodge the stumps, rather than just hit the stumps!! That means that, he has better chance of saving his partner (or even himself) during the next run!! So, does the fielder have to dislodge the stumps or just hit it?

Mohandas Menon:
The fielding side will have to dislodge the stumps not just the bails. Yes! this does give the batsman an unfair advantage, but then such instances are very rare in cricket. And even if it does happen, it is always up to the umpire to adjudicate in a fair manner keeping in view of its genuine nature.
