Jason Gillespie's 46 was his highest score of his Test career. Playing in his 20th Test match he bettered his previous best of 41 he had made against Sri Lanka at Kandy in September 1999.
** The partnership of 133 runs between Steve Waugh and Gillespie was Australia's best for the ninth wicket against India bettering the previous best of 96 runs between Ian Healy and Gavin Robertson at Chennai in March 1998. Incidentally, the Waugh-Gillespie partnership was the highest for Australia for the ninth wicket in an away Test match bettering the previous best of 130 runs between Steve Waugh and Geoff Lawson against England at Lord's in June 1989. However it was the second all-time highest partnership for Australia for this wicket in Tests. The best still remains as the 154 between Syd Gregory and Jack Blackham against England at Sydney way back in December 1894 -106 years ago!
** The partnership of 43 runs between Waugh and McGrath was the best for a visiting team at this venue for the last wicket. The previous best was also by the Australians when Alan Connolly and Ashley Mallett put on 33 runs in December 1969. In fact the Waugh-McGrath partnership was the second highest by any team for the tenth wicket at this venue. The 51 runs partnership between Indians Bapu Nadkarni and Bhagwat Chandrasekhar against England in January 1964 remains the best for this venue.
** Steve Waugh (110) has finally recorded his maiden Test hundred on Indian soil. Playing in his eighth Test match and 12th innings in India, he went to better his previous highest of 80 at this same venue during his last tour in March 1998.
** It was his second Test hundred in the sub-continent after his 157 against Pakistan at Rawalpindi in October 1998. His only other hundred against India was the 150 he made at Adelaide in December 1999.
** Waugh has now scored three hundreds during this tour - an unbeaten 106 against Mumbai XI at the Brabourne Stadium and 109 against the Board President's XI at Delhi - were his other hundreds during this tour.
** Meanwhile his 110, was the highest by an Australian captain in India obliterating Allan Border's 106 at Madras in September 1986.
** By scoring his 25th Test hundred in 134 Test matches he now occupies the fifth position among all time century-makers in Test history. Only Indian Sunil Gavaskar (34 hundreds in 125 Tests), Australians Don Bradman (29 in 52) & Allan Border (27 in 156) and West Indian Gary Sobers (26 in 93) have scored more Test hundreds.
** Towards the end of his innings, when on 104, Waugh became the eleventh Australian to reach the milestone of 20000 runs in a first-class cricket. Making his first-class debut in 1984-85 he now has 20006 runs (avg. 52.65) in 296 matches. This hundred incidentally was his 63rd of his career.
** Harbhajan Singh's figures of 7-123 are now his career best in first-class cricket. His previous best was the 6-63 for the Board President's XI against West Indies A at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai in November 1999.
** Pace bowler Glenn McGrath has now dismissed Tendulkar on five occasions. He along with South Africans Hansie Cronje and Allan Donald have the distinction of dismissing Tendulkar on most occasions in Tests.
** Playing in his 144th first-class match since 1989-90, Michael Kasprowicz claimed his 550th wicket of his career when he claimed keeper Mongia.
