The ResponsesName:Ashish Bisaria Query:In ODI and test matches what is the lowest order number batsman who has scored a century and a double century (test)? Mohandas Menon: No Test match hundreds have been scored by batsmen while batting at number 11. However three hundreds have been registered at number 10 - the highest being the 117 by Englishman Walter Read against Australia at the Oval, London in 1884. Two double hundreds have been scored by batsmen batting at number eight with Pakistani Wasim Akram's unbeaten 257 against Zimbabawe at Sheikupura in 1996-97 being the highest. In the one-dayers Hashan Tillekeratne is the only batsman to score a hundred at number seven - 100 against West Indies at Sharjah on 16-10-1995. No three figure scores have been achieved by batsmen in ODIs while batting lower than seven. Name:Rishi Query: Everyone is going gaga over Australia's seemingly over stated and often misleading statistic - stating that for the past 31 odd years Australian's haven't been able to claim the title of 'victor' in a test series against India in India. Correspondingly, would be kind enough to let everyone know when was the last time India won a test series in Australia against Australia? Thankz.. Mohandas Menon: India has never won a Test series in Australia, although it has won three Test matches there. The series details for India in Australia are listed below: 1947-48: lost 4-0 (5 match Test series) 1967-68: lost 4-0 (4 match Test series) 1977-78: lost 3-2 (5 match Test series) 1980-81: drew 1-1 (3 match Test series) 1985-86: drew 0-0 (3 match Test series) 1991-92: lost 4-0 (5 match Test series) 1999-00: lost 3-0 (3 match Test series) Name:Qayyim Said Query:Mr. Memon, What is the criterion for categorizing a bowler as "fast or genuine fast" and "fast medium" in international cricket. I would appreciate your reply. Thanks. Mohandas Menon: Answer: A fast bowler is the one who bowls at genuine pace and who beats the bat just thro' sheer pace (eg. Shoaib Akhtar or Brett Lee) while a fast medium bowler bowls at a pace which is just a shade below than the speeds achieved by a genuine fast bowler. I would categorise Shaun Pollock, Glenn McGrath, Darren Gough as fast medium bowlers. Name:Amit Email Query: hi, i would like to ask u why did the aussies have an eight-ball over as compared to the conventional six-ball over? Mohandas Menon: There is no particular reason for the Aussies to introduce a eight-ball over to their cricket from 1918-19 until 1979-80. Perhaps the only reason being that they wanted to do something different than what was being done world over specially in England. Moreover eight-ball overs also allowed more overs to be bowled during the day. However some other source also states that "the preference for longer overs reflects an increasing tactical sophistication on part of the bowlers, who needed more balls per over to get into their stride and rhythm. Name:sanjana Query: different ppl recently are giving different views bout who they feel is the best batsman in the world.who according to u is the best?..and which do u think is the deciding factor, the consistancy,or the way in which the runs are scored? Mohandas Menon: Answer: According to me the batsmen who performes consistently and at the same time ensures a win for his side or even a draw under dire circumstances should be rated as the best - irrespective of the sides against whom these performances are achieved. Name:Bhupinder Query: what is the highest one day score of sunil gavaskar? Mohandas Menon: In one-day internationals - his highest score was an unbeaten 103 against New Zealand at Nagpur on 31-10-1987 during the 1987 World Cup.Interestingly this was his only ODI hundred which came in his penultimate match of his international career - his 107th ODI match. However in one-day domestic matches he has scored three hundreds - all in the Wills Ttophy competition. His highest in these matches was 113 for Bombay against Board President's XI at Kanpur in 1981-82.
