Playing in his 133rd match Guy Whittall became Zimbabwe's eighth captain to lead the side in LOIs. Incidentally he is the third Zimbabwean to do so in as many matches after Grant Flower and Heath Streak.
Craig Wishart was making a comeback to the Zimbabwe side after missing 25 matches. He last appeared against New Zealand at Nairobi on 9-10-2000, in the ICC Knockout tournament.
Dion Ebrahim (42) recorded his highest ever score of his LOI career. Playing in his sixth match he bettered his previous best of 32 he made against India at Harare in the last match on 24-6-2001.
The 87 run partnership between Ebrahim and Wishart was the best for the third wicket at this venue in LOIs. The pair bettered the previous best of 84 between the Bangladeshi pair of Javed Omar and Habibul Bashar against Zimbabwe on 11-4-2001.
The last occasion Whittall scored a fifty-plus for Zimbabwe was against West Indies at Canterbury on 11-7-2000 in the Natwest series. Since then in 32 matches and innings his highest score was an unbeaten 36 which he had made against India at Sharjah on 22-10-2000. Before this innings he had aggregated just 526 runs at 17.53 runs per innings.
Zaheer Khan's 4-42 was the best ever figures by an Indian bowler on Zimbabwean soil. The previous best was the 3-36 by Ajit Agarkar in the last match on 24-6-2001.
Zaheer, incidentally equals his best figures in LOIs which was also against Zimbabwe at Sharjah on 26-10-2000.
During his innings of 85, Saurav Ganguly became the only second batsman to reach 1000 runs against Zimbabwe. Teammate Sachin Tendulkar (1242 runs in 30 matches) is the only other batsman to reach this landmark against Zimbabwe. Ganguly now has 1053 runs in 24 matches.
For the second time in his career in 157 matches, Grant Flower has taken four wickets in a match. His best still remains as the 4-32 against Kenya at Dhaka on 23-3-1999. This means that it was his best bowling performance against a Test playing nation.
Playing in his 146th LOI match, Dravid won his only sixth man of the match award of his career. The last occasion he won the award was against West Indies at Toronto on 14-9-1999. He was then playing in his 99th match.
