Srinath will be closely watched

Board of Control for Cricket in India selection committee chairman Chandu Borde on Monday said the forthcoming home series between India and Australia will be a "challenging" one.

After selecting the 25 probables for the 11-day conditioning camp at Madras, next month, Borde told newsmen the selectors will be looking out for quality spinners to tackle the Aussie batsmen.

"In fact, I, Sourav Ganguly and John Wright discussed what sort of pitches we are going to play on and what different combinations we can have," he said.

"We want to try out as many players as possible. Delhi's left arm medium pacer Ashish Nehra will be considered for the longer version of the game, like four or five-day matches, while Javagal Srinath can be used in both versions of the game provided he agrees to play both Tests and one-dayers," Borde said, adding: "We have selected Srinath in the Indian senior team for the Challenger Trophy and let us see what happens with him."
