Message:What is the highest score made by a batsman in ODIs for the losing side. In the 3rd ODI between Zim and Ind, Tendulkar made 146 and India lost the match. Has any player made more runs than this for a losing cause.

Answer1:
Yes! The 167 by England's Robin Smith against Australia at Birmingham on 21-5-1993. It was however a 55-over match. Tendulkar's 146 is now the second highest individual score for a losing side.

Message:Hi! I am 11 years old. I have a question to ask the expert. How many times have 2 bowlers taken hat-tricks in a Test match

Answer2:
None! However Australian Jimmy Matthews against South Africa at Manchester in the 1912 Triangular Test series twice took a hat-trick in the same afternoon (on 28th May 1912) but in two separate innings.

Message:Who played the maximum number of balls in a single innings in both forms of the game? Who holds the records for India? Who played maximum no.of balls in career?

Answer4:
New Zealand's Glenn Turner batted for 210 balls during his innings of 171 not out against East Africa at Birmingham in the 1975 World Cup. Interestingly, the Indian record is held by Sunil Gavaskar when he took 174 balls during his innings of 36 not out against England at Lord's in the 1975 World Cup. The maximum number of balls faced in a career is 13,652 balls by West Indian batsman Desmond Haynes in 238 ODI matches.

Message:How many bowlers have taken 100 or more wickets in One-day intls, without having taken 5 or more wickets in an innings? One, for sure, bowler I know of having achieved this is Ajit Agarkar. Any more in his club?

Answer5:
There are in all 11 bowlers who have taken 100 or more ODI wickets without ever achieving a five-wicket haul during their career. Australian captain Steve Waugh has the maximum wickets (192) for a bowler without a five-wicket haul in ODIs. Just for your info. out of the 11 bowlers only Waugh and Agarkar are still playing ODI matches. The rest of the nine bowlers have retired.

Pls give a breakdown of Lillee's performances home and away and Murali's performances home and away at the point when they reached the 300 wickets milestone. ##We already have Murli's figures, only Lillee's required##

Message:How many minutes is a batsman allowed before he has to come to the crease? and if there is a time limit can the batsman be declared out for exceeding this limit? This question is in light of the amount of time Niel Mckenzie took on the morning of the 3rd day of the second Test match between SA and SL.

Answer9:
As per Law 31 (1980 MCC Code) an incoming batsman can be ruled "timed out" if he does not reach the field of play within 3 minutes of the fall of the previous wicket. However the delay must be "wilful". In Neil McKenzie's case it was not on purpose - and also no appeal was made by the fielding side.

Just for your information - no batsman has ever been dismissed 'timed-out' in first-class cricket until 20 December 1997 when Tripura's number eleven Hemulal Yadav was declared 'timed-out' in a Ranji Trophy match. The incident took place at the Barabatti Stadium, Cuttack on the last day of the Ranji match between the hosts Orissa and Tripura. When Tripura's Vijay Bhatnagar became the ninth batsman to be dismissed at 10:28 a.m., drinks were called.

After the three-minute drinks break, Tripura's number eleven batsman Hemulal Yadav had still not come out to the field. According to reports, he along with his team manager were sitting outside the boundary, without making any attempt to come to the wicket. On an appeal from the Orissa fielders, the umpires Dr K N Raghvan and S Dendapani, both from the Kerala Cricket Association, had no other option but to "time-out" Yadav at 10:33 a.m. Whatever may be the reasons for Hemulal Yadav's delay in coming out to bat, he has now acquired a unique place in the record books as the first ever batsman (and so far the only player) to be dismissed 'timed-out' in a first-class match.

Message:Hi Rediff Expert, I would like to get a more precise picture of Bradman's strike rate. His 334 against England was scored in a day. Could you please given an idea of how many overs were bowled during this innings. I have a feeling that in pre-war cricket, the number of overs/hour rate was extremely high. Thanks & Regards, Anantharaman N.

Answer10:
During the pre-war (WWII) times on an average 115-120 overs were bowled in a single day in Test matches, as against 90 overs bowled now.

In fact 134 overs were bowled on the first day of the Leeds Test match on 11-7-1930, when Bradman scored 309 runs

Pre Lunch session (46 overs ): Bradman 105 not out Between Lunch and tea (52 overs): Bradman 220 not out (added 115 runs after lunch) Betwen tea and close of play (36 overs): Bradman 309 not out (added 89 runs after tea)

He was finally dismissed for 334 on the second day: His entire innings came in 381 minutes, 450 balls
