Mark Waugh injured ahead of first Test

Australian batsman Mark Waugh suffered a hand injury on Thursday just five days before the first Test against India.

The prolific batsman tore a webbing on his left hand going for a catch at second slip on the first day of Australia's three-day game against national champions Mumbai.

"He got three stitches on his finger. He has split the webbing in his hand," said coach John Buchanan.

Buchanan said it is unlikely that he would bat on Friday.

"But with the stitches and his amazing prowess for recovery we hope he'll be ready in time for the first Test," he added.

The first Test starts in Bombay on February 27.
