1891:
England all-rounder and leg-spinner Jack Hearne (24 Tests from 1911 to 1926; 806 runs and 30 wickets) was born.

1937:
Australian captain and left-handed opening batsman Bill Lawry (67 Tests from 1961 to 1971; 5234 runs, avg. 47.15) was bornn.

1937:
West Indies left-handed batsman Peter Lashley (4 Tests from 1960 to 1966) was born.

1938:
New Zealand captain and batsman Bevan Congdon (61 Tests from 1965 to 1978; 3448 runs) was born.

1948:
England's Billy Griffith scores 140 on debut against the West Indies at Port of Spain - to become the only English player to score his maiden first-class hundred in his very first Test innings.

1996:
England left-hander Cyril Poole (3 Tests from 1951 to 1952) died aged 74.

1959:
Indian all-rounder Vinoo Mankad appears in his last Test match against West Indies at Delhi and at 41 years 305 days he becomes the oldest to appear in a Test match for India.

1961:
A record crowd of 90, 800 watched the Melbourne Test match between Australia and West Indies on the second day.

1981:
India win by 59 runs as Australia were dismissed for 83 while chasing just 143 runs to win at Melbourne. This incidentally was India's last Test win in Australia.

1985:
Pakistan left-armer Wasim Akram takes ten New Zealand wickets for 128 in his only second Test match at Dunedin. However he still finishes with the losing side.

1995:
West Indies scores 660-5 decl. at Wellington was still remains the highest ever total by any team against New Zealand.

1995:
West Indian keeper Junior Murray scores 101 not out in 88 balls - his maiden Test hundred - against New Zealand at Wellington.



12th February...

1857:
England left-arm spinner Bobby Peel (20 Tests from 1884 to 1896; 101 wickets) was born.

1871:
England batsman Charlie McGahey (2 Tests in 1902) was born.

1880:
South African batsman William Shalders (12 Tests from 1899 to 1907) was born.

1889:
England batsman Andrew Greenwood (2 Tests in 1877) died aged 41.

1891:
South African medium paced off-spinner Cecil "Dickie" Dixon (1 Test in 1914) was born.

1921:
England all-rounder and fast bowler Charles Leslie (4 Tests from 1882 to 1883) died aged 59.

1932:
South Africa was dismissed for 36 against Australia at Melbourne as Bert Ironmonger claims five wickets for just six runs.

1941:
New Zealand all-rounder Ross Morgan (20 Tests from 1965 to 1972; 734 runs and 5 wickets) was born.

1949:
Indian captain and batsman Gundappa Viswanath (91 Tests from 1969 to 1983; 6080 runs) was born.

1961:
Pakistani Mushtaq Mohammad's 101 against India at Delhi makes him the youngest to score a Test hundred at 17 years 81 days.

1964:
West Indian pace bowler Milton Small (2 Tests in 1984) was born.

1966:
Pakistani left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed Sr (1 Test in 1998) was born in Kuwait City.

1972:
Sri Lankan batsman Dulip Samaraweera (7 Tests from 1993 to 1995) was born.

1980:
Richard Hadlee - against West Indies at Dunedin - became New Zealand's highest wicket-taker by surpassing the previous highest tally of 116 wickets by Richard Collinge.



13th February...

1858:
Australia left-handed batsman Harry Moses (6 Tests from 1987 to 1995) was born.

1904:
England batsman Eddie Dawon (5 Tests from 1928 to 1930) was born.

1950:
Australian fast bowler Len Pascoe (14 Tests from 1977 to 1982; 64 wickets) was born.

1957:
West Indian keeper and left-handed batsman Thelston Payne (1 Test in 1986) was born.

1969:
Indian pace bowler Subroto Banerjee (1 Test in 1992) was born.

1945:
England batsman George Studd (4 Tests in 1882-83) died in California, USA, aged 85.

1948:
West Indian Andy Ganteaume scores 112 in his only Test innings against England at Port Spain. His career batting average of 112.00 remains the best by player in Test history.

1980:
New Zealand beat West Indies by one-wicket at Dunedin - the winning run coming off a scampered leg-bye off Stephen Boock's pad.

1987:
New Zealand captain Milford "Curly" Page (14 Tests from 1930 to 1937) died aged 84.

1995:
West Indian pace bowler Courtney Walsh takes 13-55 against New Zealand at Wellington - till the best ever Test match bowling figures in New Zealand.

2000:
West Indian leg-spinner John Cameron (2 Tests in 1939) died in England, aged 85.

2000:
South African fast bowler Tertius Bosch (1 Test in 1992) died aged 33.



14th February...

1896:
South Africa were dismissed for 30 (in 94 balls) their lowest ever by England at Port Elizabeth as George Lohmann takes 15 wickets for 45 runs, including eight wickets for seven runs and a hat-trick in the second innings. A record 23 batsmen were dismissed "bowled" in this match.

1947:
Pakistan all-rounder and off-spinner Salahuddin (5 Tests from 1965 to 1969) was born in Aligarh, India.

1950:
Jack Moroney (118 in the first innings) scores 101 not out in the second against South Africa at Johnnesburg (Ellis Park). He remains the only batsman in history to score his only two career Test hundreds in the same Test match.

1968:
England all-rounder and pace bowler Chris Lewis (32 Tests from 1990 to 1996; 1105 runs and 93 wickets) was born.

1970:
England's wicket-keeper Bert Strudwick (28 Tests from 1910 to 1926) died aged 90.

1973:
South African batsman Hylton Ackerman jr (4 Tests in 1998) was born.

1974:
New Zealand batsman Stewie Dempster (10 Tests from 1930 to 1933; 723 runs, avg. 65.73) died aged 70.

1990:
Australian batsman Graeme Hole (18 Tests from 1951 to 1954; 789 runs) died aged 59.

1997:
Stephen Fleming at 23 years 319 days became the youngest to captain New Zealand in a Test match against England at Christchrurch.



15th February...

1878:
England batsman Jack Sharp (3 Tests in 1909) was born.

1921:
Leg-spinner Arthur Mailey takes 9-121 against England at Melbourne - still the best ever figures by an Australian bowler in Tests.

1932:
South Africa (36 & 45) lost to Australia (153) by an innings and 72 runs at Melbourne inside two days of actual play - the total playing hours of 5 hours 53 minutes makes it the shortest ever completed Test match.

1956:
West Indian captain and opener Desmond Haynes (116 Tests from 1978 to 1994; 7487 runs) was born.

1959:
Sri Lankan batsman and wicket-keeper Guy De Alwis (11 Tests from 1983 to 1988; 23 dismissals) was born.

1965:
South African Test pace bowler Craig Matthews (18 Tests from 1992 to 1995; 52 wickets).

1978:
New Zealand beat England (64 all out) at Wellington by 72 runs - their first win over England in 48 matches and 48 years!

1979:
New Zealand batsman Hamish Marshall (in 2000) was born.

1981:
England's left-hand batsman Jack Crapp (7 Tests from 1948 to 1949) died aged 68.

1998:
South Africans Mark Boucher and Pat Symcox put on a record 195 runs for the ninth wicket - against Pakistan at Johannesburg. Symcox (108) became the only third number ten batsman to score a Test hundred.



16th February...

1868:
South African left-arm spinner Bertie Rose-Innes (2 Tests in 1889) was born.

1886:
England batsman Andrew Ducat (1 Test in 1921) was born.

1899:
"Plum" Warner (132 not out) scores a hundred on debut and also carries his bat throughout the England's second innings against South Africa at Johannesburg. He remains the only batsman in Test history to achieve both these feats on debut.

1902:
South African all-rounder Cyril Vincent (25 Tests from 1927 to 1935; 526 runs and 84 wickets) was born.

1904:
West Indian left-arm spinner of Chinese origin Ellis "Puss" Achong (6 Tests from 1930 to 1935) was born.

1933:
Australian batsman Archie Jackson (8 Tests from 1929 to 1931; 474 runs, avg. 47.40) died aged 23.

1917:
England pace bowler Jack Martin (1 Test in 1947) was born.

1936:
South Africa wicket-keeper and batsman Tommy Ward (23 Tests from 1912 to 1924; 459 runs and 32 dismissals) died aged 48.

1945:
South African medium pacer WHB "Billy" Frank (1 Test in 1896) died aged 72.

1950:
England batsman David "Lucky" Denton (11 Tests from 1905 to 1910; 424 runs) died aged 75.

1954:
West Indian fast bowler Michael Holding (60 Tests from 1975 to 1987; 249 wickets) was born.

1966: Australian Bob Cowper scores 307 against England at Melbourne - still the highest ever individual Test score made in Australia.

1972:
Debutant West Indian batsman Lawrence Rowe, who scored 214 in the first innings against New Zealand at Kingston scores another hundred (100 not out) in the second innings - remains the only batsman to do so on debut in Test history.

1973:
South African batsman Pieter van der Bijl (5 Tests in 1938-39; 460 runs, avg. 51.11) died aged 65.

1978:
Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer (in 2000) was born.

1978:
Sri Lankan pace bowler Suresh Perera (in 1998) was born.

1999:
The second Test tri-nation series (since 1912) and the first ever Asian Test Championship began at Calcutta - between India and Pakistan.



17th February...

1882:
The Australia-England match was the first ever Test match to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

1882:
Australian batsman George Coulthard at Melbourne became the first Test umpire to subsequently appear in Test cricket (he had officiated in a Test match as an umpire three years earlier).

1898:
New Zealand captain and batsman Tom Lowry (7 Tests from 1930 to 1931) was born.

1916:
Australian wicket-keeper Don Tallon (21 Tests from 1946 to 1953; 58 dismissals) was born.

1929:
England batsman Maurice Read (17 Tests from 1882 to 1893; 461 runs) died aged 70.

1936:
Australian captain and wicket-keeper (and now a ICC match referee) Barry Jarman (19 Tests from 1959 to 1969; 54 dismissals) was born.

1936:
England all-rounder Peter Walker (3 Tests in 1960) was born.

1940:
South African batsman Dennis Gamsy (2 Tests in 1970) was born.

1962:
New Zealand keeper-batsman Tony Blain (11 Tests from 1986 to 1994; 456 runs and 21 dismissals) was born.

1973:
New Zealander Rodney Redmond scores 107 and 56 against Pakistan at Auckland - in his only Test match.

1976:
New Zealand beat India at Wellington by an innings and 33 runs to record its first ever innings win in Tests. Richard Hadlee takes 7-23 as India was dismissed for 81 in the second innings.

1982:
Sri Lanka appears its first ever Test match - against England at the P Saravanamuttu Stadium, Colombo.

1993:
England all-rounder Leslie Townsend (4 Tests from 1930 to 1934) died in New Zealand aged 89.
