Vision Statement for Indian Cricket

Micro and Macro Planning

This once - thanks to lack of foresight in the past, for which we apologise to the country, the game and the players - the board finds itself constrained to draw up a vision statement under pressure.

The board vows that it will never again find itself in such a position.

Thus, the board will make planning, at both the macro and micro levels, mandatory through the hierarchy.

The chairman of the board, thus, will have his own individual, overall vision statement. Which he will constantly update, incorporating the changes the game undergoes from time to time.

Similarly, the finance committee, the technical committee, the selection committees, the committee of coaches - not to elaborate, every single department within the board will have its own vision statement, which will entail the detailing of both short term and long term goals, and concrete plans to achieve those goals.

The plans will be reviewed periodically, progress will be charted, and the respective committees will be held accountable - publicly accountable - for results.

Accountability will in fact be the leitmotif of the BCCI, at all levels. Every member of the cricketing structure will be responsible for producing results in the sphere of activity entrusted to him, and failure to do so will result in summary dismissal. There can be no results where there is no accountability, and the BCCI will recognise this principle and act upon it.

This code, unlike the one submitted to the sports minister, was drawn up in a little over four hours.

It does not purport to be complete. Nor does this writer, on behalf of this mythical board, take on himself omniscience.

The vision document in this draft form will, thus, be submitted to a broad-based panel of experts, comprising of cricketers of standing and repute, management and financial experts, for comments, criticism and suggestions, which will then be incorporated into the final draft. Which, in turn, will then become the cornerstone of a new cricketing future for India.
