The Gary Lawyer Chat

Gary Lawyer (Mon Oct 28 20:09:36 1996 IST):

Alisha: If you have noticed these are essentially very Hindi music oriented awards. Also the fact that this album has been released after a gap of three years since my last album.

DKA: (Mon Oct 28 20:10:53 1996 IST):

Gary: Why did your record company ignore you? Was it because they were too busy promoting the cousins?

Alisha (Mon Oct 28 20:11:20 1996 IST):

Gary I'm shocked I had always heard rumours that record compnies in India were sloppy but this takes the cake...................Tell me since you have seen the whole inception of this industry tell us how much of sleaze is in it? and all the rest? so that atleast people like us out here don't have any illusions about the high handed behavious of such record companies

DKA: (Mon Oct 28 20:11:47 1996 IST):

If record companies treat you so badly, why do you stick with singing? Or are you independently wealthy?

Gary Lawyer (Mon Oct 28 20:12:26 1996 IST):

DKA: No not the Cousins. They are worth promoting. But promoting a whole heap of other artistes as is the trend in the world of Hindi pop. Mine is a much smaller audience.

Shamoli Verma (Mon Oct 28 20:13:02 1996 IST):

But Gary is it true that the fact is that these pop singers mentioned by Alisha use their sex appeal to boost up their ratings and most of the time its their faces that sell the record? Don't you think you would have done much better if you would have been a girl???please gimme a honest answer

Gary Lawyer (Mon Oct 28 20:14:25 1996 IST):

Alisha: I'd love to tell you but at this point in time I have a new album just released and let's just hope it does as well as I feel it deserves to do. I think in all humility, it's a great album.

Gary Lawyer (Mon Oct 28 20:15:26 1996 IST):

DKA: Singing is like my right arm. I couldn't cut it out of my life. And in my own way I'm doing very well.

Morrison (Mon Oct 28 20:15:42 1996 IST):

Hey Gary ole man lets go to the Alabama Whiskey BaR what are u doing in a cafe??*smile* given up whiskey already?

Shamoli Verma (Mon Oct 28 20:16:43 1996 IST):

Gary I think you are afraid of answering Alisha's question.......are you afraid???????

Gary Lawyer (Mon Oct 28 20:17:24 1996 IST):

Shamoli: I have a lot of faith in my own voice and I'm looking on to much bigger things than just selling locally. And I have the satisfaction of doing the kind of music my heart and soul dictate. And that's reward enough for me.

Morrison (Mon Oct 28 20:17:38 1996 IST):

Gary my friend do you believe in God? If yes why if not why???*Oh take me to the next whiskey bar..............

minstrel (Mon Oct 28 20:18:54 1996 IST):

Hiya Gary! About when did you get the singin' bug man? Did ya mama hav anythin' to do wi it?

Gary Lawyer (Mon Oct 28 20:19:24 1996 IST):

Shamoli: I think I am. I have enough to worry about being a purely western musician in an Indian society.

Morrison (Mon Oct 28 20:19:31 1996 IST):

WHAT THINGS .......telll us about them......as our good old frend Louis Armstrong said We have all the time in the world.............*pulling up a chair* so tell us?

minstrel (Mon Oct 28 20:20:27 1996 IST):

so whatcha gonna do next man?

Morrison (Mon Oct 28 20:21:47 1996 IST):

HEY MAN do you belive that ELVIS is still alive?????I've seen him couple of times hanging around those junkies looking for a drag *grin*

Gary Lawyer (Mon Oct 28 20:22:47 1996 IST):

Morrison: I believe Elvis is dead - physically.

Paul Mckinsey (Mon Oct 28 20:23:30 1996 IST):

Hi GARY, how is the Western msuic scene in India? Is there any scope for guys and bands who do urely English numbers to survive without having to play cover versions?

Morrison (Mon Oct 28 20:24:42 1996 IST):

...

minstrel (Mon Oct 28 20:24:52 1996 IST):

When you were little, which ones really made a difference to you? Like did you play in the school band and such?

Gary Lawyer (Mon Oct 28 20:24:59 1996 IST):

Paul: No scope for purely original music - performance-wise. I guess I am one of the luckier guys who has a contract to do purely western albums.

Morrison (Mon Oct 28 20:26:00 1996 IST):

Hey Gary my an sing a song for us ........your lates number ......c'mon veeryone LETS HEAR IT FOR GARY.....

Sanjay Sinha (Mon Oct 28 20:27:32 1996 IST):

Yo GARY man how u doing??

Gary Lawyer (Mon Oct 28 20:27:40 1996 IST):

Minstrel: I've been a singer all my life. I also played the guitar and the piano in my school days. But I guess I was too shy to go out and play in front of an audience. But I did play in a band as a rhythm guitarist but not as a singer.

minstrel (Mon Oct 28 20:27:51 1996 IST):
