Questions Kanti Bajpai didn't answer

Shiva (Mon May 18 1998 8:5 IST)
Hello, Prof KB! It's nice to have you on before the hawks! Frankly, don't you think India has endangered her position by now enraging both Pakistan and China?

WarPeace (Mon May 18 1998 8:8 IST)
Prof Bajpai and Sundaram. Now that there are 500 missiles pointing at India, does it mean we also arm ourselves with 500 or more missiles? Where will this end? Can we afford it?

sundaram (Mon May 18 1998 8:11 IST)
Mr. K. B: Even if Pakis and Indians did not have bomb, we cannot march to Kashmir. China will nuke you or US nuke you. After Bangladesh's liberation, India was threatened by a US nuclear strike and China's troop movement.

sundaram (Mon May 18 1998 8:14 IST)
WarPeace: Security council seat means nothing. US can do anything unilaterally what it wants. It did so and it will do so in future.

sundaram (Mon May 18 1998 8:23 IST)
Mr.K.B: If Pakis nuke India in the thoughts of levelling of India and killing all Hindus, now Pakis will be killing 200-300 million Indian Muslims also. By this definition they are Muslim killers Is it not? So Pakis bomb is an anti-Islamic bomb! Ghauri missiles cannot seek only Hindus! Do they have technology like that?

Prem (Mon May 18 1998 8:32 IST)
Mr Bajpai>> OIC... if I read you right, we need a minimum 100, a maximum 200, to have an effective deterrent against the Pak-China threat...

sans (Mon May 18 1998 8:34 IST)
Good evening Professor. I don't remember who said "Walk softly but carry a big stick!" It was a US politician. When I was a kid everybody respected, loved and were wary of the guy who bent Coke bottle-caps between his fingers. He never fought or abused or showed any signs of bravado. En contraire, he was affable, friendly, protective and humorous. Nobody messed with him. I think there's a message for all apologists to the bomb. Don't you agree?

Whatnow (Mon May 18 1998 8:34 IST)
Mr Bajpai I strongly suggest you serve ONE repeat ONE day in SAICHEN or NATHULA, with the Clear thought you are facing Declared/Un declared Nuclear enemies.

Sathya (Mon May 18 1998 8:36 IST)
One thing baffles me? What if we had not done these tests, but the Pakis got it clandestinely from China as it has done with the missiles. Surely U.S. is not going to come to our rescue for that matter none of the Big5. How will we defend ourselves in that case?

sundaram (Mon May 18 1998 8:37 IST)
Whatnow : you said very well by asking this. What about Kashmir Hindus. They are not HUMANS?

Whatnow (Mon May 18 1998 8:38 IST)
What kind of Papers are you reading Professor? Did you know that N Korea is blackmailing S Korea and US . Worst of all, the USD is so dependent on China it has to seek the services of China to negotiate RANSOM. Wake UP or Live in China. They will give a stick ....

Prasad (Mon May 18 1998 8:38 IST)
Prof. Bajpai, China having signed all these glorious treaties is not adhering to them. Ths US is simply turning a blind eye to Chinese missile and nuclear proliferation to Pakistan.

Sathya (Mon May 18 1998 8:40 IST)
China agreeing not to transfer any nuke technology is not worth even the paper on which it was written. Every U.S. Senate Committee finding, and other independent reports, still suggest that whatever nuke technology Pak has acquired, it was from China and N Korea

Whatnow (Mon May 18 1998 8:41 IST)
For your information, JAPAN, SE asia everybody is glad That India did it. They just make statements to placate US. Please read The GREAT POWER GAME BY DANIEL YARGIN. You certainly remind me of the saying "Better Untaught than ILL taught " Father let my country awake " tagore

sans (Mon May 18 1998 8:41 IST)
Way to go whatnow. I have a brother there, and I'm always fearing the worst. Perhaps Professor, the bullets thy see whizzing past are actually lost in a time-warp from 1962 and are just appearing now! Professor sahib, let's get real. Why do we have such a massive Army presence on our Northern and Eastern borders? Why do unimaginable numbers of young soldiers die there of cold and insurgency? Certainly not because China is happy with her 1962 position.

Shahezadi (Mon May 18 1998 8:44 IST)
Mr Bajpai: Some experts have cast doubts on India having the capacity to explode a thermonuclear device, as announced as last week. The implication is that we ignorant Indians lack the necessary expertise... Do you think the prime minister was lying?

Whatnow (Mon May 18 1998 8:45 IST)
Prof Remember declared intentions (CTBT etc) are different from Undeclared ACTIONs!

sundaram (Mon May 18 1998 8:47 IST)
Mr. K.B: you did not answer me. Are you leftist?

Prasad (Mon May 18 1998 8:47 IST)
The Clinton administration had reigned in transfer of satellite technology to China after evidence surfaced that China was shipping it to other countries (read as Pakistan).
There's been allegations that after the Chinese govt. made campaign contributions, he lifted the ban and allowed the transfer to take place.

sans (Mon May 18 1998 8:49 IST)
Tell us where you stand Professor Sahib? Do you actually have an opinion?

whatnext (Mon May 18 1998 8:55 IST)
OK prof, If Arunachal is a bargaining chip then the tests are our bargaining chip? You negotiate from a position of strength. I ask you to stop writing papers and read some ordinary newspapers ( along with your chairman's thought, which they themselves thrown in trash)

vigyani (Mon May 18 1998 8:58 IST)
KB, how were relations with China in 1962. You are behaving like an intelligent ignorant.

sans (Mon May 18 1998 8:58 IST)
Okay Professor, agreed for the moment that that you're right in thinking that China will not attack India. For what? as you say. Let's pull out our forces from our China borders? It doesn't make sense amassing force against what you maintain is a peaceful, satiated northern neighbour. Do you agree?

Sathya (Mon May 18 1998 9:0 IST)
Prof, I'm surprised at the tone and what you have to say about the '62 war. It almost suggests as if the Chinese aggression was justified. If they could wage a war to get Aksai Chin so that they get access to Tibet, what will stop them from waging another war to get the entire N.E and Bengal and get an access to the Bay of Bengal. What the heck do they care about a billion 'poor and sick' (in your words) Indians? If they can run tanks on their own people, they might happily do the same here. And I'm sure Leftists like you and Harkishen Surjeet will be too happy to justify that too.

Prasad (Mon May 18 1998 9:0 IST)
and it's time they did..
Prof. what about Washington's tacit approval to Chinese nuclear and missile proliferation to Pakistan?

whatnext (Mon May 18 1998 9:2 IST)
Professor you need to go BACK TO THE BASICS. " WHERE EVER THERE IS BOUNDARY THERE IS DISPUTE"
2) CHINA FOUGHT wit VIETNAM as soon as it realised Vietnam was going out of its orbit. You are more loyal than the king? Don't you see the simple facts, Unless you want a Chinese passport living in INDIA!!!

sundaram (Mon May 18 1998 9:3 IST)
Mr.K.B - proud left liberal: China wanted Tibet - It took it. Ok with you and you are proud of it. China demolishes Budhism (liberal proud). What about India taking Pakistan, Kashmir - Demolish their religion Ok. If you are a left liberal, you should support the demolishing of all religion - go all the way!

Prasad (Mon May 18 1998 9:4 IST)
Do the Indian communists passports say "India" or "China" on them ??? No, this is a serious question...
There's that traitor Sitaram Yechuri who wouldn't condemn China for the 62 aggression... "Umbrella communists".. they open their umbrellas here when it rains in China..
