Domestic air traffic in the first two months of this year fell by 3.57 per cent compared to the same period last year, with number of passengers flying remaining more or less stagnant.
Overall, the number of passengers carried by all domestic airlines in January and February was 100.23 lakh as against 103.95 lakh in the corresponding period the previous year, thereby registering a minus 3.57 per cent growth, the latest official data showed.
A major reason for the negative growth in passenger traffic was the closure of Kingfisher Airlines and the exit of its 25 aircraft from the market, sources in aviation regulator DGCA, which collects and analyses these data from various airlines, said.
