The German car manufacturer Mercedes Benz is likely to give a facelift to its C Class saloon.

The revised C-Class is expected to arrive in India somewhere in July 2011.

There are chances that the new C Class would undergo only cosmetic changes and there would be little change as far as the engine in concerned.

Let's see what the new Mercedes Benz C-Class would sport and how the German beauties compare with rivals such as BMW 3 series, Audi A4 and Volvo S60.

Mercedes Benz C Class: 2012 Facelift

Chances of an under the hood changes are remote however there would be around 2,000 plus significant safety and cosmetic changes in the Mercedes Benz C Class.

Initial reports and some spy shots suggest revamped bumpers, wheel designs and makeover of the tail lamps.

The new LED accents also look quite impressive.

As per reports, some photos and specifications of the C-Class facelift were released by Mercedes in December 2010.

And the new C-Class was first showcased at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2011.

Besides the design changes, the new Mercedes Benz C-Class is also expected to have an engine start-stop system and seven gears.

A visual display unit like the one in S and CL Class models is also in place in addition to the reworked interior appearance.

The C-Class is also expected to be fitted with Command APS System that the E Class has.

The all new 2011 Mercedes Benz C-Class is said to have been undergoing rigorous tests at the Automotive Research Association of India, Pune and after it clears all the tests it would be certified and would hopefully be unveiled in July.

Existing Mercedes Benz offerings in India

In India Mercedes Benz presently offers M-Class, CL-Class, CLS-Class, E-Class, GL-Class, C-Class, S-Class, SL-Class, SLK-Class, SLS AMG, R-Class, and Mercedes-Benz G Class cars.

The existing C-Class is available both in petrol and diesel variants and is priced between Rs 26.53 lakh (Rs 2.65 million) toRs32.30 lakh (Rs 3.23 million) ex-showroom in New Delhi.

The C-Class is available in six variants -- C 220 CDI Executive (Rs 26.53lakh), C 200 CGI Executive (Rs 25.75 lakh), C 200 CGI (Elegance)(Rs 28.30 lakh), C 200 CGI (Avantgarde) (Rs 29.52lakh), C 250 CDI (Elegance) (Rs 32.03 lakh), C 250 CDI (Avantgarde) (Rs 32.81).

Mercedes Benz C-Class: From 1993 to 2011

With the launch of Mercedes Benz C-Class in 1993, the 190 range of cars were replaced and it was among the smallest offering by the German car makers until the A-Class arrived in 1997.

In India, the C-Class arrived when it was already three generations old.

The C-Class got its first significant, though mild makeover in 1997 that was restricted to new darker rear tail lights, new front and rear bumpers, newly reworked wheels besides some interior changes.

The existing diesel driven C 220 CDI Elegance AT that has 2.2L 170bhp 4-cylinder engine is in close competition to BMW's 320d Corporate Edition which is a 2.0L 168bhp 4-cylinder in-line engine car.

Besides, Volvo S60 D5 Kinetic, which has a 2.4L, inline, 5 Cylinder, D5 Twin turbo diesel engine and Audi A42.0 TDI that has multitronic diesel driven automatic transmission also competes with the C Class in terms of sales in India.
