Engine

Hyundai i10

The Hyundai i10 is available in two types of engines with nine variants.

Two of the variants have the 1.1L, 1086cc, IRDE petrol engine generating 66.7PS power at 5500rpm and maximum torque of 10.1kgm at 2500rpm.

The other seven variants are powered by a 1.2L, 1197cc, Kappa engine producing 80PS of maximum power at 5200rpm and 11.4kgm of maximum torque at 4000rpm.

The car now has new engine - the 1.1 iRDE2, SOHC, four-cylinder unit producing maximum power of 69 PS at 5500 rpm and torque of 10.1 kgm at 4500 rpm.

And the 1.2 Kappa2, DOHC, VTVT, four-cylinder engine producing 80 PS power at 6000 rpm and torque of 11.4 kgm at 4000 rpm.

Wagon R

The other popular hatchback on the block, Maruti Wagon R was recently fitted with a 1.0L KB10 petrol engine which is BS IV compliant and produces 68 PS power at 6200 rpm and a torque of 90 Nm at 3200 rpm.

It comes with a five-speed manual transmission and DOHC with offset crankshaft.

Wagon R's Vxi also has the CNG option and is powered by Intelligent Gas Port Injection (i-GPI) bi-fuel technology.

In the CNG mode the car generates 59.3 PS power at 6200 rpm and max torque of 77 Nm at 3500 rpm.

Chevrolet Beat

The third hatch, Chevrolet Beat, comes with a 1.2 L petrol mill that displaces 1197 cc and comes with a five-speed manual transmission gearbox.

This engine is an inline four-cylinder and 16 valve unit that produces 80.5 PS power at 6200rpm with 108Nm torque at 4400rpm.

Mileage

Hyundai i10

Hyundai i10's D-lite and Era models equipped with 1.1L, 1086cc, IRDE (Intelligent Responsive Drive Engine) petrol engine give a mileage of around 14kmpl in city and 19.8kmpl on highway.

The other variants including Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta W Sunroof powered by the new 1.2L Kappa petrol give a mileage of 15.4kmpl in the city and 19.2kmpl on the highway.

The remaining two variants, Magna AT and Asta AT, give a mileage of around 15.4kmpl in city and 20.3kmpl on highway.

On the other hand the new 1.1 iRDE2 and 1.2 Kappa2 petrol engines are claimed to give a mileage of 20.36 kmpl, which is ARAI certified.

Wagon R

Wagon R's all new KB10 engine is fuel efficient and offers a mileage of about 14.2 kmpl in the city and 18.9 kmpl on the highways.

And the Vxi CNG variant gives 15.5 km/kg in the city and 20.2 kg/km on highways.

Chevrolet Beat

The three variants of Chevrolet Beat powered by the 1.2L, 1199cc petrol engine offer a mileage 14.5kmpl in the city and 18.6kmpl on highway.

Price

The three cars are priced pretty competitively and there is little to rate one above the other in terms of pricing.

While the Hyundai i10 falls in the price range of Rs 348,804 - Rs 590,915,

Maruti Wagon R comes for Rs 328,930 - Rs 416,695, and

Chevrolet Beat has a price tag of Rs 349,994 - Rs 415,485.
