The Maruti WagonR is set to chuck its boxy look and sport a new one. Hoawever, the new model will cost more.
According to dealership sources, Maruti will unveil the new WagonR next week which will also see the company introduce an LPG variant of the model.
"The boxy look has disappeared and the new WagonR has a bold, aggressive stance," a source said, adding that both models would be priced higher than the existing WagonR, which has an entry price of Rs 323,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).
Maruti has decided to go in for a makeover for the model on suggestions of customers.
"The intrepid design of the new vehicle is actually a bold statement by Maruti and also signifies its aspirations to retain its position at the top of the heap," the source said.
The new-look model is targeted at the company's close competitor Hyundai which had a similar facelift of its flagship Santro model when it launched the Xing.
"The new cars build on the strong points of the outgoing vehicle and brings in a host of changes designed to appeal to a vast variety of customers," the source said.
Through the LPG variant, the company seems to be addressing competition from the Indica diesel though Maruti is set to launch diesel cars itself by the end of this year.
WagonR has been one of the good selling models for the company in the A2 segment and has seen sales rise by 32 per cent for the last three years.
