Textile sector to generate 17 mn jobs

Apparel industry, whose exports from India are likely to grow to $85 billion in 2010-11 has the potential to generate 17 million jobs.

The exports currently at $38 billion in 2005-06, would grow to $85 billion in the next four years, Textile Commissioner J N Singh said.

This robust demand for yarns and fabrics has potential to generate 17 million jobs, he said.

India's apparel sector has witnessed rapid and sustainable growth and is on the fulcrum of an ever-increasing growth curve, he said.
