India Stonemart attracts 40 nations

Jaipur will host 'India Stonemart 2005' to showcase fabulous range of stones being offered by Rajasthan.

Around 1,000 delegates from 40 countries, including UK, Germany and China, will participate in the supermarket of stones and stone products, which will begin on Friday.

Business and trade deals of over Rs 200 crore (Rs 2 billion) are likely to be struck during the five-day event in which Japan, Korea, Egypt, Taiwan, Turkey and Italy are the other participating countries, Rakesh Hooja, chairman and  managing director of Rajasthan Industrial Development and Investment Corporation said.

This is for the first time Jaipur is hosting a stone fair since 2000, he said.  Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Jharkhand are also participating in the Stonemart.

A meet for buyers and sellers would be organised between January 29 and 31, besides one-to-one business meetings between foreign and Indian participants, he added.

Turkish representative Ali Kahyaoglu expressed the hope that Indians would reciprocate by attending stone fairs in turkey later this year.

Chinese delegate Sophia Yang said the Stonemart 2005 gave a unique opportunity in bringing together people from China and India.
