Sensex closes at 12109, up 139 points

The markets closed with significant gains with good volumes outperforming its Asian peers. It opened weak and there was some volatility in the intial trades but picked up momentum during the later part of the day. Nifty closed above 3500 mark for the first time since May 17.

The Sensex closed up 138.67 points or 1.16% at 12109.14, and the Nifty was up 45.45 points or 1.31% at 3502.8.

All the BSE Sectoral indices closed in green

The BSE Midcap Index ended up 12 points at 5,009.08.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed up 28 points at 5,999.56.

The BSE Auto Index closed up 1.10% or 56.16 points at 5,165.19. TVS Motor, Ashok Leyland, Amtek Auto, Cummins and M&M ended up.

The BSE Bankex was up 0.36% or 20.21 points at 5,643.37. Oriental Bank, Union Bank, Allahabad Bank, IOB and Centurion BoP closed high.

The BSE Capital Goods Index up 0.68% or 54.96 points at 8,105.79. Stocks like KEC Infrastruct, Alstom Projects,  HEG, Praj Industries and L&T gained.

The BSE FMCG Index gained 1.09% or 21.95 points at 2,044.04. McDowell, ITC, HLL, Shaw Wallace and Dabur India closed up.

The BSE Health Care Index was up 0.13% or 4.71 points at 3,606.56.  Apollo Hospital, GlaxoSmithKline, Divis Labs, Orchid Chemical and Cipla surged.

The BSE IT Index was up 0.69% or 30.25 at 4,383.06. Stocks like TCS, Wipro,  Mphasis BFL, Satyam and I-Flex Solution surged.

The BSE Metal Index was up 0.99% or 79.20 close at 8,113.07. JindalStainless, Nalco, Tata Steel, SAIL and Welspun Guj ended up.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index moved up 0.90% or 50.57 close at 5,676.49. ONGC, MRPL, Reliance, HPCL moved up.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 6561.56 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 27418.57 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3404.52

crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 37384.65 crore.

BSE Smallcap Index up 0.47%; Gabriel India up 14.3%, Bajaj Electric up 14%

NSE Advance Decline ratio at 1:1

Total market turnover at Rs 37384.65 crore (Rs 373.84 billion) vs Rs 37498.87 crore (Rs 374.98 billion) on Tuesday.
