The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 22 points at 9,192, but dropped to a low of 9,137 in morning deals. Renewed buying at lower levels saw the index zoom to a high of 9,290 - an intra-day swing of 153points. The Sensex finally closed with a gain of 114 points (1.2%) at 9,284.
ICICI Bank gained 4.6% (Rs 26) to Rs 588. HDFC moved up over 3% (Rs 36) to Rs 1,231. SBI added 2.9% (Rs 26) to Rs 923.
Infosys advanced 2.4% (Rs 70) to Rs 2,988. TCS added Rs 25 to Rs 1,718. Wipro was up Rs 3 at Rs 441.
Bajaj moved up 1.8% (Rs 37) to Rs 2,119. Hero Honda was up Rs 11 at Rs 848. While Maruti was up Rs 10 at Rs 658, Tata Motors was up Rs 7 at Rs 619.
Reliance gained Rs 3 to Rs 849. HLL and ITC were up a rupee each at Rs 188 and Rs 141,
Hindalco gained 3.6% (Rs 5) to Rs 141. Reliance Energy moved up 3% (Rs 18) to Rs 633. BHEL was up Rs 13 at Rs 1,425. Tata Power, Grasim, Ranbaxy, Bharti Tele and Dr. Reddy's also finished with gains.
L&T declined 1.6% (Rs 27) to Rs 1,709. Cipla was down Rs 5 at Rs 425. HDFC Bank dropped Rs 3 to Rs 700.
