The Sensex declined seven points to close at 5,680. The Nifty finished nine points lower at 1,786.
Wipro slumped 1.7% (Rs 11) to Rs 639. Infosys and Satyam declined 1.3% each to Rs 1,762 and Rs 396, respectively.
Reliance gained Rs 5 at Rs 551. While ITC shed 1.3% (Rs 15) to Rs 1,104, HLL was down a rupee at Rs 126.
ONGC has plunged 1.5% (Rs 12) to Rs 794. HPCL dropped over a per cent (Rs 3) to Rs 325.
ICICI Bank advanced 2.4% (Rs 7) to Rs 294, and HDFC Bank finished a per cent (Rs 4) higher at Rs 410. SBI, however, declined over a per cent (Rs 5) to Rs 460.
HDFC rallied 3% (Rs 19) to Rs 649.
Hindalco slipped into negative zone towards the close and finished Rs 5 lower at Rs 1,238. Tisco ended unchanged at Rs 285.
Late buying at the Ranbaxy counter saw the scrip rally to Rs 1,082 - up Rs 9. However, Cipla slipped over a per cent (Rs 3) to Rs 280,
Auto stocks exhibited mixed trend. While Hero Honda and Tata Motors posted gains at Rs 420 and Rs 409, respectively, Maruti and Bajaj Auto posted losses at Rs 358 and Rs 984, respectively.
Tata Power tripped nearly 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 307, and Reliance Energy was down a rupee at Rs 644.
Bharti Tele and Zee lost over a per cent each to Rs 148 and Rs 154, respectively
