The Sensex closed at 5,197 - down 56 points. The Nifty ended 22 points lower at 1,633.
Reliance declined 1.8% to Rs 494. Infosys (down 2%) and ICICI Bank (down 2.2%) closed at Rs 1,526 and Rs 273, respectively.
While ITC ended with gain of a rupee at Rs 1,049, HLL closed a rupee lower at Rs 116.
While ONGC was down nearly 3% at Rs 718 and HPCL lost 2.4% at Rs 321, SBI and MTNL lost nearly 2% each at Rs 440 and Rs 128,
respectively.
Hindalco gained 1.5% (Rs 15) to Rs 1,050.
Cement stocks ended at higher levels. Grasim ended 1.6% higher at Rs 1,040, ACC was up 1.3% at Rs 257 and Gujarat Ambuja ended a per cent higher at Rs 304.
